How we’re helping reduce the PPE shortage

The current environment created by COVID-19 has demanded a far-reaching, unified response by our global community. Healthcare workers, manufacturers, and the general population have all joined forces together to implement measures to reduce the spread of COVID-19 and to battle this virus together.

We wanted to do our part in combating COVID-19 and have been producing personal protective equipment (PPE) face shields for healthcare workers across North America. We are producing over 300+ units per day and are continuing to increase our production capacity to supply as many face shields as possible. We are collaborating with our partners and customers within the Additive Manufacturing community to manufacture over 5000+ face shields within the upcoming weeks.

We have worked with an infectious disease specialist team at a local hospital to make design improvements to an initial open-sourced model. Our face shields use thermoplastic grade materials that have a high temperature and chemical resistance, which allow for a broad range of sterilization methods.  We have also been granted a Class 1 Medical License from Health Canada to manufacture and distribute our PPE products. Our face shields contain the below specifications and design improvements:

• ABS plastic frame that can withstand temperatures up to 90°C/190°F.
• Clear Polycarbonate shield that can withstand temperatures up to 140°C/280°F
• A closed-top cover to provide additional protection against contamination and reduce exposure to the virus. This is important as COVID-19 is transmitted via droplets
• Wider shield to provide additional coverage
• Adjustable headband design to improve comfort during extended use
